Even before the tears of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s mother could dry up, Congress general secretary and heir apparent Rahul Gandhi went partying with his pals at a farmhouse on Delhi’s outskirts.

The party was attended by over 800 guests, including regulars at Page 3 dos. “When everyone is cancelling parties or just keeping them low-key, Rahul Gandhi had no business to be celebrating. His action makes us lose faith in future leaders,” said Ajay Bahl, a leading corporate lawyer who was trapped in the thick of the action on 26/11 at The Oberoi, Mumbai, but managed to escape with the help of the hotel staff.

Does Rahul Gandhi have no sense of timing or decency? The country is in mourning. The bodies of 180 innocent men, women and children of the ghastly Mumbai carnage are still warm in the morgue. The citizens are angry and horrified at this latest slaughter of Indians by the Muslim fanatics reared in Pakistan’s hate factories of jihad. And in this funeral atmosphere, this grand-child of Indira Gandhi can spend all night partying hard, listening to ghazals with a glass of champagne and a plate full of Mughlai kabab, even as the NSG commandos are locked in a room-by-room battle with the terrorists in the pitch-dark interiors of the Taj Hotel?

This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has embarrassed and horrified everybody with his immaturity and indiscretions. While campaigning during the last UP elections, he left the tired Congress leaders and party workers behind on the dusty road of Rai Barelli and coolly walked into an air-conditioned mall to have a McDonald burger. The party-men sweating in the sun were obviously not amused and grumbled about how Rajiv Gandhi would have sat on a charpoy under a tree and shared a meal with them.

Rahul Gandhi went to Afghanistan a couple of years ago. An Afghan journalist asked him why he wanted to visit Afghanistan. Now instead of saying something profound for the occasion, such as the Afghanistan-India relations since ancient times, the shared history, the Gandhara school of art or the story of “Kabuli wala” that we have all read in childhood, Rahul Gandhi mumbled something about how he was in Delhi getting bored and some of his friends suggested that a government delegation was going to Afghanistan and he should tag along! The leaders accompanying him were reported saying that this episode shows how much Rahul Gandhi has to live and learn.

Is this the prince charming that is going to rescue India in distress? He clearly lacks maturity and intellectual depth, and shows signs of stunted development. He does not appear well-read and carries a sheepish grin on his face all the time. HIs body language is that of a man-child unsure of himself. His political blindness is even worse than J.L. Nehru.

What was Rahul Gandhi's mid-night mission with a Christian NGO in Orissa?

The colourful ‘Discover India’ trip of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi to Orissa concluded colourlessly, without discovering anything except two missionary run evangelical institutions. Shri Gandhi only proved that mere Gandhi-Nehru origin can neither discover India nor identify its soul. It was just a pre-poll campaign of his party for which the state spent crores of rupees from the public exchequer.

Rahul Gandhi’s last visit to Orissa kept the administration and the security forces on their toes as he went away to some unknown place in the late night, without informing even the police. During his visit to Berhampur, he went away to a village named Kankia, about 30 kms from Gopalpur township. He was accompanied by the chief of a missionary run NGO and two bodyguards. He went to the office of that NGO at about 10 in the night and spent some hours there. Then he visited a residential school run by that missionary and distributed chocolates. He took his dinner in the school and rested in the village. Reliable source said that Rahul Gandhi spent a lot of time with the NGO men than his party workers. The NGO is well-known as a Christian institution and is allegedly involved in proselytisation and evangelical activities in the southern part of the state.

He returned to his camp in the morning where all his party leaders were searching for him. He did a similar disappearing act during his visit to Koraput district, where he was warmly welcomed by a reputed evangelical institution. Rahul visited it late night, accompanied only by four bodyguards. In both the cases, the police and the administration were kept in dark. Rahul allegedly did not permit the police force, no police pilot nor even the Superintendent of Police of Koraput to follow him, fully knowing that it was a Naxal-prone area. When contacted about the Berhampur incident, the S.P. of Ganjam district admitted the unscheduled visit to an unknown place but declined to disclose more.

NEW DELHI: Schweitzer Illustrierte, a Swiss news magazine, has alleged in an old issue that the Soviet intelligence agency KGB had deposited US $2 billion in a Swiss bank account in 1985 in the "minor" account of Rahul Gandhi managed by his mother Sonia Gandhi.

Janata Party President Dr Subramanian Swamy, who had secured an order from the Delhi High Court to the CBI to investigate alleged receipt of slush money by late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's family, has cited a November 1991 issue of the Swiss magazine in support of his charge.

In an affidavit filed before the High Court, Dr Swamy has contended that the CBI should have atleast contacted the news magazine to ascertain the facts. Dr Swamy says a proper CBI inquiry would reveal a scandal which will make the Bofors kickbacks pale before it as it involves corruption indulged in by late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and exposes the slush money received by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Dr Swamy has contested the CBI's contention before the High Court last month that the "allegation" that Rahul Gandhi had received benefits from the commercial dealings of an Indian firm in coopertion with the Soviet foreign trade organisations is vague and hence it did not conduct any inquiry.

He has claimed in the affidavit that during his recent visit abroad this year, he had received "reliable information" that then KGB chief Victor Chebrikov had sought, in writing in December 1985, from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), "authorisation to make payments in US dollars to the family members of Mr Rajiv Gandhi, viz Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ms Paola Maino, mother of Sonia Gandhi."

He has further claimed that the payments were authorised by CPSU by a resolution CPSU/CC/No 11228/3 dated 20/12/1985 and the same was also endorsed by the USSR Council of Ministers in Directive No 2633/Rs dated 20/12/1985. He also claimed that these payments had been coming since 1971 as the payments received by Sonia Gandhi's family "have been audited in CPSU/CC resolution No 11187/22 OP dated 10/12/1984.

It may be mentioned here that Dr Swamy had filed a writ petition before the Delhi High Court last year claiming that his allegations against Sonia Gandhi and her family members were based on the documents in the KGB archieves. He said the CBI should have obtained a Letter Rogatory to seek the information from the Russian Government instead of rejecting his charges outright. The case is listed for the next hearing on October 28. END

CHENNAI, June 19: Janata Party president Dr Subramaniam Swamy has urged the Union Government to obtain from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi a full disclosure of the accounts both operate abroad.

Dr Swamy, who released his letter to Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha at a press conference here today, claimed that the Securities and Exchange Board of the United States and other revenue authorities in that country were investigating into Rahul Gandhi?s recently depositing some "hot money" into his account in the Credit Swiss First Boston (CSFB) Bank in the United States.

He said there was no scope for the partition of Kashmir or to recognise the Line of Control as an international boundary.

Dr Swamy also criticised the Prime Minister?s decision to approve the Gas and Oil Pipeline Project from Iran to India through Pakistan, claiming that it would endanger India?s national security. The country?s energy supplies would "become a hostage to Pakistan?s whims", he added.(UNI)

On the education of Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi's post-school education is as follows:
St Stephens - one year, 1989-90
Harvard University - one year, 1990-91

The admission at St Stephens was not on the basis of merit, but on the sports quota. And the sports speciality - rifle shooting. So, one wonders the merit basis about admission to Harvard University.

His job in London? One report below says that he worked for a computer firm. Another says that he was an investment banker. Give the above education, one has to ask questions about competence in either. Of course, education alone is not a sufficient criteria, but it would be considered to be a necessary criteria.
